Ango
Andrew Gordon Mcpherson aka ANGO is a singer / songwriter and producer born out of the fertile music scene of Montreal. Having hit his first notes in a rock band, and later as a DJ and producer, he became the first of his peers to take the leap into singing, quickly establishing his voice and sound as a unique soulful weapon with a rare pop sensibility.
He has collaborated with Katy B, Azealia Banks, and closely with fellow Montrealers Jacques Greene, as well as Lunice and Prison Garde under the group name Nouveau Palais. In the past couple of years, he has performed to adoring crowds in such esteemed events as Sonar Festival, MUTEK, and Fabric in London. He was also chosen as one of the few alumni of the Red Bull Musical Academy’s 2010 edition, handpicked out of hundreds of appli- cants.
His debut EP Another City Now- released on the avant-garde electronic label LuckyMe- was a critically ac- claimed exploration into modern R&B. With splashes of late 80s pop and early 90s house throughout the pro- duction, ANGO’s first release offered a 6-track narrative of love songs for the modern age, ranging from grandi- ose pop euphoria to tender melancholic moments.
A few months later, he released a cover of Sade’s “No Ordinary Love” delivered as a free download on Valentine’s Day 2012, showcasing the breadth of his sound with a tribute to his biggest musical influence. Althought hesitant to accept any comparison to the legendary singer, her inspiration can also be heard in some of his darker com- positions, “Better For You” and “Get Out Of My Life”
Ango’s first full-length Serpentine unveiled his biggest and boldest vision to date, following the artist’s personal journey across genres. ANGO unleashed the project to the world by premiering the first single “Paralyzed” on Pitchfork; the quiet storm of bubbly production and contained vocals quickly found its onto dance floors across the world.
As fans spread the love, ANGO continues to write his unique take on modern soul and looks forward to his up- coming studio releases.
