Bernie Worrell Orchestra

Funk iconoclast, Bernie Worrell, has been on the ground floor of a Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame super group, all while inventing a completely original and uncanny sound and building a reputation as one of the most versatile hired guns in the music business. From the fat Minimoog bass lines of “Flash Light” and “One Nation Under A Groove” to the percussive piano runs of “Chocolate City” and “Give Up the Funk,” Bernie Worrell is synonymous with the legacy of Parliament-Funkadelic. He is one of the originators of the psychedelic funk sound, having written and co-produced the lion’s share of the music going back to Funkadelic’s formative years, with an eclectic ear for everything from Chopin to the Chi-Lites. Worrell has made contributions to seminal albums outside the P-Funk canon—including collaborations with Talking Heads, Keith Richards, Yoko Ono, Jack Bruce, Les Claypool, Ginger Baker, Mos Def, Sly & Robbie, Deee-Lite and Bill Laswell. In October 2011 the Bernie Worrell Orchestra formed as a live outlet for Worrell to perform his solo work. The Bernie Worrell Orchestra performs with a line up varying from a 6-piece heavy keyboard and guitar-based psychedelic band to a 9-piece configuration complete with horn section, recalling arrangements similar to those created by Worrell when he held the role of musical director in Parliament. The enthusiastic response from fellow musicians has led to guest appearances by the likes of Bootsy Collins, Mike Watt, Fred Wesley, Jerry Harrison, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Gary Lucas in addition to a vast variety of notable artists. July 2013 saw the release of Bernie Worrell Orchestra’s debut album, ‘BWO is Landing’, which the group has been aggressively touring in support of. The band has begun work on a follow up album.
