The Pentagon has fast become one of the leading agencies funding -- and conducting -- neuroscience research. From prosthetics for soldiers controlled directly by the brain's signals, to Terminator-like cameras that are cued directly by the brain, the potential of such research is enormous, but also controversial. Suggested applications, such as drones controlled by soldier's brains, evokes images of science fiction distopias, even if the potential to advance science and treat brain injuries is also substantial. Increasingly, scientists and neuroethicists are involved in talking about what the implications of neuro-weapons might be.
